  Kahok Sweep Another Weekend
Kahoks had a good trip this past weekend traveling south to the Farmers State Bank Mid Winter Tournament in Marion, Illinois.  The Kahoks won on Friday night over the Cairo Pilots and won again Saturday night against the host Wildcats to come away with the first place trophy in the first year of the tournament.

Qtr: 1 2 3 4 Final
Collinsville 21 27 28 17 93
Cairo   9 25 16 17 67

On Friday night the Kahoks defeated Cairo 93 to 67 Friday night in a game that was definitely lacking in defense, especially on the side of the Pilots.  The Kahoks busted out to a big first quarter lead 21 to 9 and really never were threatened the rest of the game.  Robbie Fernandez had his way in the paint area all night scoring 34 points, a career high, on 14 for 18 shooting with all of them being layups in the paint.  The Kahoks continued to outscore the Pilots each quarter, but with so many possessions in the game it gave the Pilots a chance to score and they did by scoring 25 points and 16 points in the 2nd quarter and third quarter, but the Kahoks still continued to outscore them in each quarter. Ten Kahoks would go on to score in the game with Austin Ash adding 17 points and Deonta Smith chipping in 12 points. The 93 points were the most the Kahoks had scored since they scored 93 points vs. Wood River back in the 1996 IHSA Regional Tournament.

On Saturday night the Kahoks made the return trip south and defeated the Marion Wildcats 43 to 28 to claim the Championship trophy.  The Kahoks outscored the Wildcats in each quarter and coasted to the relatively easy win.  The Kahoks bested Marion 12 to 9 in the 1st quarter and 5 to 4 in the 2nd quarter to take a 17 to 13 lead in at halftime.  The low scoring game would go on to benefit the Kahoks after the game.  In the 2nd half the Kahoks would outscore the hosts 26 to 15 to coast to the win.  Austin Ash led the Kahoks in scoring with 14 points and Robbie Fernandez added 9 points and Daryn Foster 8 points.

With the win the Kahoks finished the tournament with a 2 and 1 record.  Collinsville, East St. Louis and Marion all finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.  The Kahoks won the tournament on fewest points allowed with 157.  ESL allowed 188 and Marion allowed 163. Austin Ash and Robbie Fernandez were named to the All-Tournament team with Robbie Fernandez garnering MVP honors for the tournament.  The win moved the Kahok record to 13 and 7 on the year and will be back in action next Friday in Southwestern Conference play with a road game at East St. Louis.  On Saturday the Kahoks will host the Cyclones of Sacred Heart Griffin at Fletcher Gym, which will also be Jr. Kahok Night.
