  Coach Vergil Fletcher dies at 93
Coach Vergil Fletcher died Tuesday night, June 30, 2009, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois, after being found unresponsive at the Collinsville, Illinois, nursing home where he was living.

Coach Fletcher amassed a 747-170 record (.814 winning percentage) in 32 seasons of Collinsville Basketball.  He led the Kahoks to a 14 appearances at the state tournament, including a complete set of state basketball trophies: state championships in 1960-61 and 1964-65, a second in 1956-57, a third in 1977-78 and a fourth in 1949-50. He retired in 1978 after 32 years of coaching.

In football, he compiled a 99-66-11 record in 20 years retiring in 1966.  Coach Fletcher also coached track and cross country and was the school's athletic director during his tenure at Collinsville High School.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 3rd at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, with a Funeral Mass beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Burial will be at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
